Three symphonies in one project of Spira mirabilis – unusual; one piece per concert – very usual for us!; three concerts within a few hours – very unusual!
It's our last project before the summer break, and maybe because of the mild climate, or thanks to the longer hours of sunshine, the concerts will take place closer together, even closer than at our Haydn Fest, and the music envelops the days, almost stressing the hours.
Le Matin, Le Midi and Le Soir are three juvenile works which Haydn composed at the time when he had just been summoned to the court of Esterházy, where he was going to be „Kapellmeister“, a most privileged position for almost thirty years. The history of the Symphony as we know it starts precisely there, by this gifted, young Austrian composer just having arrived at the court of a music-loving Prince, where a well-stocked orchestra was at his total disposal, combined with the freedom to compose, perform and conduct.
Early music played on period instruments and the trilogy in the programme represent the next appointment of Spira with Franz Joseph Haydn, an appointment that we care for very much and that has been marking our path for quite some time. More than one hundred symphonies Haydn composed during his long life: proceeding with our pace, Spira could finish the complete cycle in only 34 years!
